Todmorden: A town where greenthumbs, not sticky fingers, prevailThe Daily Mail pays a visit to Todmorden, a quaint British town that’s littered with raised vegetable and herb gardens where residents can grow — and take — whatever they fancy.
The ethnically and economically diverse mill town of about 15,000 residents is home to Incredible Edible, an ambitious, agrarian-minded scheme that’s brought together an entire community under one common goal: to become completely self-sufficient in food by the year 2018.

EETHUIS (eathouse) is a small house made of a scaffold structure and covered with eatable green (vegetables, herbs and flowers). We’ve built the house, the green has grown very well and we’ve had a nice harvest.

British Waterways to grow more food alongside canals » City Farmer News
The UK seems to be at the forefront of urban agriculture development.

not that the uk has a real problem with precipitation, but it would be cool if these plants were watered by the river in which they were grown.
this is a great idea, too, because the barges could be moved up & down the waterway to meet up with river-side festivals & farmer’s markets.
